Rare earth as a strategic emerging industries, it plays an important role in the economic development in china. Due to the limiting of rare earth resources and the important status in the high-tech field, it is important to achieve the effective utilization of rare earth resources. China as a country with a large number of rare earth resources, there are many serious problems in the rare earth industry, such as wasting of resources seriousby、primary product overcapacity、vicious competition、lack of high-end product researching、environmental pollution. these makes the rare earth did not play the function of strategic resources in our country. In order to understand the development of rare earth industry at the present stage, this paper selects17listing corporations as representatives of rare earth industry, and try to through the research of performance evaluation to reflect the development of the whole industry, also it can be used as a reference for rare earth industry enterprises to improve their efficiency of management level.This paper describes the performance evaluation of relevant theories firstly, and evaluates related methods of performance evaluation. And then this paper reviews domestic and international researches about performance evaluation. Finaly the method of DEA was used in this paper, we select a listed corporations with17representative samples of rare earth industry as an empirical analysis estimates sample, Finally, in order to improve the operating performance of the listing corporation of rare earth industry, we propose three recommendations, such as improving the management level、increasing research investment integrating of rare earth resources.
