| Gansu is an underdeveloped western province and also a traditional agricultural province. It has harsh natural conditions, fragile ecological environment and prominent inadequate rural development. The rural area of the underdeveloped province, particularly the58key counties for poverty alleviation, is the major difficulty to achieve well-off society. How to speed up rural development will be a major and urgent task in front of governments at all levels in Gansu. It requires making in-depth research and analysis on this issue to better guide the practical work.Therefore, this paper aims to find out the status quo of Gansu poor rural area development, carefully analyzes opportunities and challenges faced by Gansu’s rural development, studies and refers to the advanced domestic and overseas experience and practice of promoting rural development, proposes countermeasures to accelerate the development of Gansu rural area, makes contribution to ensure the synchronization of Gansu’s rural area with national development and achieve the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in2020.The paper analyzed the basis status-quo of the current rural development in Gansu from three aspects, the number of poor rural area and distribution of poor population, the farmer’s major income and expenditure, and the effectiveness of Gansu’s rural development in the new century. By access to information, several village field research and years’ rural living and work, the author of this paper summed up the prominent problems in five aspects faced by Gansu’s rural development. Based on the actual situation of the natural environment, economy and social development of rural area in Gansu, combined with the prominent issues faced by rural development, and the typical experiential basis of domestic and overseas rural development, this paper made careful analysis and summary, and proposed7recommendations to further acceleration the rural development in Gansu. |
