As a harbor city, the port of Guangzhou has grown into the international port after several tens years of development. According to the (The reform and development plan for the Pearl River Delta region》and strategic planning, Guangzhou has been clearly designed into an international shipping center, even if it has not yet reached a consensus. On the other hand, in recent years, the glut of port capacity leads to become increasingly fierce in competition with the great development of the Pearl River Delta ports. Guangzhou harbor is big but not strong, if don’t change the development mode in order to build it into a international shipping center, the original hinterland source of goods of Guangzhou harbor will be completely shunted with the development of the surrounding city harbors. If so, it will bring great threat to the development of Guangzhou harbor.Therefore, this dissertation analyzes the internal conditions and external environment of the harbor city Guangzhou with SWOT, starting from the question why we need to build Guangzhou into international shipping center. And then, we get to know the necessity, the urgency and practicability of doing so. Meanwhile, the dissertation proposes the hinterland international shipping center construction mode in order to build Guangzhou into an international shipping center on the basis of the actual situation. Finally, the dissertation raises the specific strategy of building Guangzhou into an international shipping center based on the comprehensive analysis.In the aspect of literature research, there is a long way to cover about the building of Guangzhou international shipping center. To this point, the dissertation has certain reference significance.
