The polyester fiber lifting belts are widely used in all walks of society due to their numerous advantages such as high strength, easy to use and low price. Moreover, Polyester fiber lifting belts have excellent performance in flexibility, elastic resilience, abrasive resistance and acid resistance. However, polyester fibers have few defects such as poor hygroscopicity for its symmetrical structure and poor of hydrophilic groups on its molecular chain, which always cause serious static electrical phenomenon and easy lead to accumulate charges on the surface of fabrics and cause safty accident during the using process of lifting belt. Simultaneously, polyester fibers own low limiting oxygen index, resulting in its inflammability and burn with severe dripping, which would cause serious fire hazards for the mass use and storage of polyester fibers. So it is necessary to make a modification on lifting belt.With metal alkoxide or inorganic as precursor, sol-gel was formed collosol by alcoholysis or hydrolytic condensation under some certain reaction conditions. Fabrics could be endowed with special functions by the process of sol-gel finishing, which could form a transparent film on the surface of fabric. After review at home and abroad studies correlatively, silica sol made in our laboratory was used in finishing of polyester lifting belt in order to improve the antistatic and flame retardant properties.1) Mechanics property and thermal behavior of different type polyester industrial filament were tested. Then two different structure of polyester fiber lifting belt was prepared using knitting technology and it met the security demand which was proved by mechanics capability test.2) With tetraethyl orthosilioate (TEOS) as precursor and Polysorbate (T-80) as modifier, the composite hydrosol with the function of antistatic was prepared. SEM photos proved that a uniform film was coated on the surface of fiber; The result of antistatic test indicated that the polyester lifting belt had a surface resistance reaching to 109 level; The fabric after finishing showed a fair washing durability, its surface risistance remained at 2×1011 Ω after washed for 30 times.3) The optimum process of the flame retardance FQ202 finishing on polyester lifting belt was that the concentration of the flame retardance kept at 160 g/L, the stoving temperature set at 170℃ and the stoving was chosed at 180 s.4) A Phosphorus-Nitrogen-Silica type flame resistant fabric finishing liquid was made by doping 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and sulfamic acid into silica sol. The thermogravimetric analysis indicated that treated polyester fabrics showed a better thermal property than the untreated fabrics in high temperature region. The cone calorimeter test demonstrated that the fabrics after finishing showed a decrease both in peak of heat release rate and the total heat release obviously. The finishing fabric not only got an improvement in flame resistance, but also owed a fair antistatic property due to the hygroscopicity by the polyol structures of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid.
