Over the past decade, the capacity of phosphorus chemical industry production in China increased significantly, and there are more and more large phosphorus chemical factories. There are more and more new factories. Facility layout planning plays an important role in factory design, it will affect the operational efficiency of the entire system, including logistics, transportation efficiency, handling costs, productivity, production cost and safety. Facility layout planning has attracted wide attention from experts and scholars at home and abroad and they proposed specific theories and methods. But for manufacturing facility layout planning researches focus on different types of the workshops in manufacturing enterprises, lack of the research in overall factory’s layout planning, lack of analyzing the characteristics of the industry and puting forward the detailed layout requirements in a specific enterprise as a case study. So this article uses a chemical industry enterprise facilities layout planning as a case study, pays more attention to the overall and industry characteristics, and provides a completed solution.The paper firstly introduces the research background, research significance, and literature review through a lot of reading literature summarizing the research achievements of domestic and foreign scholars about facility layout planning, phosphorous chemical enterprise production logistics characteristic and the related theory.It establishes the theoretical foundation for the subsequent research. And then the article introduces the background of the phosphorus chemical plant as a case to conduct facility layout planning.Thirdly the detailed new layout planning is carried including the following tasks. The SLP method was revised and adjusted based on the phosphorus chemical industry enterprise’s production logistics characteristics.The requirements of facility layout planning of phosphorus chemical factories are proposed and the constraint conditions put out to make full use of the wharf resources and the special railway line of the plant. A comprehensive relationship between the facilities are found from the logistics and the non-logistics relationships respectively.By plotting the location and area correlation diagrams three viable solutions are available. At last the optimal solution is obtained by using logistics distance analysis method and AHP for the solutions evaluation and the effects of the layout planning are compared before and after redesign to prove the solution’s superiority. The solution gets the favourable comment by the plant.This paper uses the SLP method to improve the facilities layout planning of the plant, but the calculation process is relatively complex. The computer technology can be used to solve this problem, so combining SLP method and computer intelligent algorithm can make the implementation solution quickly and accurately. It is one of research directions in the future.
