Now, thin and comfortable wool product is the trend of market and well received by consumers, because of its fine moisture absorption, good heat retention, high elastic and soft luster. In order to meet the requirement of market, the wool yarn should has good properties, such as smooth surface, less hairiness, high strength and good uniformity. Also, the fabric should be thin, with clear texture and pattern. The compact spinning technology could reduce yarn hairiness and improve yarn strength, so the applied research of Zinser 451C3 wool compact spinning system was did in this paper, researches have been done as follows.Firstly, the principle and key device of Zinser 451C3 compact spinning system was researched, and the yarn quality was compared. The result shows that the condensed width of fiber bundle is controlled by the aperture of the perforated leather. The triangle framework formed by the strut and suction groove is cleaned by the rotary of apron. The short distance between rendezvous point and gripping line can spread the fiber and have a bad influence on fibers-converging. The pressure difference between atmospheric pressure and negative pressure can make the leather collar to form a v-shaped construction and have an auxiliary agglomeration effect on fibers, also the best negative pressure values of different yarns are different. The Zinser 451C3 compact yarn has less hairiness, better tensile and uniformity properties than the ring-spun yarn.The extended zone of perforated leather can have a good hold of yarn, and make the direction of twist deflected, which can reduce the hairiness of yarn.Secondly, yarns of different linear density were processed from 70 s and 90 s wool respectively and the quality of yarns was compared. The result shows that the quality of compact yarn is better than that of ring-spun yarn, it also prove that the compact spinning technology can make up for the defect of raw material performance to some extent. Then the Nm 80 and Nm 90 compact yarns were processed from 70 s wool, the ring-spun yarn of same count was processed from 90 s wool, and the quality of yarns was tested by the method of T-test. The result shows that the comprehensive quality of compact yarns is better than that of ring-spun yarn, when the liner density is same. The Nm 90 compact yarns processed from 70 s wool has worse yarn uniformity. The number of fibers in the compact yarn cross section is smaller than that in ring-spun yarn. So thick fibers can be processed to yarn of lower liner density on the Zinser 451C3 wool compact spinning system, but the liner density is limited.Then, 70 s wool was adopted to make Nm 80 compact yarn and 90 s wool was adopted to make Nm 95 compact yarn, and the effects of negative pressure, twist factor and traveler on the properties of yarn were investigated by single factor analysis method, besides, the reason was found out. These three parameters were optimized by the orthogonal experiment, then the experimental data was analyzed based on the variance analysis and comprehensive index analysis, and the optimum parameters were got. The result shows that the yarn quality is mainly depended on the negative pressure, while yarn factor and traveler are subordinate. The optimal process combination of spinning 70 s wool into Nm 80 yarn is as follow, yarn factor is 105, the gauge of traveler is 29 and the negative pressure is 2700 Pa. The optimal parameters of spinning 90 s wool into Nm 95 yarn is as follow, twist factor is 105, the gauge of traveler is 31 and the negative pressure is 2100 Pa.Finally, the acrylic compact yarn was processed and the quality was compared to the wool compact yarn. The result shows that Zinser 451C3 wool compact spinning system can be used to process wool type chemical fiber, and the quality of yarn can be better when the liner density of yarn is lower. It also can be proved that the Zinser 451C3 wool compact spinning system has a better matching with wool fibers than chemical fibers.
