Virtual reality simulation technology can completely show the process of petrochemical equipment.Its application in the field of petrochemical simulation has become more and more important. In this paper, we take the diesel hydro-refining unit as the research object, and create a mathematical model of diesel hydro-refining unit based on mechanism analysis method, and develop a virtual reality simulation system of it. This paper provides a method for data communication between the virtual reality units and the mathematical model, realizing the direct operation of the mathematical model on the virtual reality units. It combines the characteristics of virtual reality and system simulation. It not only has the good man-machine interaction and realistic three-dimensional scene, but also has the function of mathematical simulation.This paper introduces the background information, such as virtual reality, simulation technology, modeling approaches and so on. Then we present the methods and soft wares by analyzing the realization of the system. This paper uses 3ds Max software to establish a series of geometric models of the production units and the related models of a virtual factory, which is widely applied in the field of 3d modeling. This paper realizes scene roaming, human-computer interaction and so on by using Virtools as the driving engine, which is very mature in the field of virtual reality. We use Virtools SDK to develop a client communication module, and use C++ language to write server-side reactor mathematical model and the communication program. So that virtual scene and mathematical model can communicate with each other.The system that this paper designed and made has friendly interface, varieties of interaction and good function. It will help user to understand the production equipment and process.
