In the complex industrial communication environment such like coal mining, the quality and efficiency of over communication will be effected by the communication between equipment with different communication protocols, and hence it’s a technique problem that should be overcame.In this thesis, a multi-protocol converter was designed for coal mine environment, based on the review of the current existing protocol converter between RS232, RS485, CAN, fiber, Ethernet. The designed device can be used to setup Ethernet conveniently by multiple media such as twisted-pair cable, Fiber or coaxial cable, and facilitates the connected RS232/RS485/CAN device to access the Ethernet.To achieve the aim, this thesis firstly designed the hardware based on the consideration of the function, power dissipation, cost and the application environment. The STM32F107 and RTL8306 was select as the core chip of the entire device. The power module, RS232 interface, RS485 interface, CAN interface, UTP/Fiber/coaxial cable based Ethernet interface, SMI/MII interface and Frequency/Current I/O interface was also designed to meet the demand of connecting different devices.Secondly, the overall software structure and each functional modules were designed in this thesis. Basically, the μC/OS-II embedded OS and LwIP protocol stack were ported to our hardware system. Socket was used to realize the conversion between RS232/RS485/CAN with Ethernet. We analyze the mechanism the of the data conversion function module and optimized the performance of the data transmission. The Telnet server and WEB serve was designed to facilitate user to query and maintain of the equipment.We tested the function and performance of the multi-protocol converter while the results show that the equipment can achieve our initial goal which is convert multiple prosocial flexibly and efficiently.Finally, we summarized all the work in this project, and further points out possible improvement in the future.
