Truck mounted concrete pump is a kind of special equipment for transporting andplacing concrete with the concrete delivery pump mounted on the truck chassis orspecial vehicles. It holds a very important position in large-scale infrastructureconstruction, high-rise buildings, civil construction, water conservancy and hydropowerconstruction, transportation engineering and other earthworks.Concrete distribution is completed by the boom system, thus, boom structurewhich is reasonable or not will directly affect the working-performance and reliabilityof the truck mounted concrete pump. In the process of research and design, it is veryimportant to optimize the boom system in order to make the maximum thrust and strokeof each luffing cylinder as small as possible. In addition, static strength of boomstructure is made to get the information about static stress and deformation of eachcomponent of the boom system under the most unfavorable working condition.On the basis of overview of the development of truck mounted concrete pump andbrief introduction of the research status of boom system, this paper took a particulartype of boom system as a study case to optimize the mechanism of boom system withthe modern design method combined with CAE analysis technology.The main contents of the paper are listed as follows:①The paper elaborates the working loads and strength calculation theory on thebasis of analyzing and summarizing structure and composition of boom system, whichprovides theoretical basis for mechanical model’s establishment and finite elementanalysis.②Analyzes the relationship between various components of the luffingmechanism, establishes the mathematical model for the instantaneous length of eachhydraulic cylinder and the hinge point position. Considers the conditions which thethrusts of hydraulic cylinders reach to the maximum comprehensively, this paperconcludes the mechanical model of cylinder thrust and hinge point position withrelevant Knowledge of material mechanics.③Based on the mechanical analysis of luffing mechanism,“Optimum designsoftware for hinge point system of truck mounted concrete pump” is programmed basedon genetic algorithm by VB language. The program takes the boom system hinge pointlocation and length of the linkages as optimization variables, which is desired to reduce the maximum force and shorten the cylinder stroke of each luffing cylinder.Optimization results show that cylinder thrust of each luffing cylinder is significantlyimproved and cylinder stroke is also decreased.④Considering the most unfavorable condition which each arm is kept horizontalstraight, strength analysis of boom system is done by using finite element analysissoftware HyperMesh and ANSYS. The results show that the optimized boom systemsatisfies the requirement of strength.
