Substation is an important part of the grid, which is of great significance to the safety and stable operation of the grid. For a long time, corrective maintenance and scheduled maintenance are the major maintenance methods in substation. The drawback of the traditional methods is obvious. With the continuous development of modern science and technology, the operational status of primary equipment is monitored by the system. Combined with the results of condition monitoring, condition-based maintenance can be conducted in substation, which has become the main method of substation maintenance. The design of condition monitoring system is a device for primary equipment condition monitoring. Alarm in time when abnormal data was detected. Thus ensure the safe and reliable operation of the grid. The operational condition monitoring device, generally use wired data transmission. However, the number of primary equipment in substation is large, and their structure is complex. The use of wired data transmission exist lots of problems, its wiring cumbersome, costly and prone to lightning and aging, the location of the devices can not be moved freely, and its flexibility is poor. Therefore, a design of condition monitoring system for primary equipment in substation based on ZigBee has practical significance. It has provided a solution for improving the operational automation level of substation and the operational reliability of grid.According to the design requirements and the pre-achieve functions of the system, the overall structure of the system is divided into three parts:data collection, wireless data transmission and host computer monitoring. The hardware design of the system is mainly for data collection and wireless data transmission. The CC2430chip from TI was selected as the main chip in the article. According to the characteristics of ZigBee network, the part of hardware was divided into coordinator node, router node and end node, then, the block diagram of the hardware was designed. Complete the design of RF and expansion circuits, sensor circuit, power supply circuit, JTAG interface circuit, serial communication circuit and alarm and reset circuit.In the software design of the system, this paper uses Z-Stack protocol stack from TI, mainly for the development of application-layer. Design the software flow of coordinator node, router node and end node. Following the instructions, the end node has achieved the functions of collecting the data and wireless transmission. Communication protocol is divided into wireless communication protocol and serial communication protocol. Design the command frame format of coordinator node and host computer. Design the data frame format of end node and coordinator node.In the software design of the host computer, LabVIEW software from NI has been used to develop the human-machine interface of the system. The interface can display the real-time status data of the device, and generate sound and light alarm when the data beyond the border. It can inform the supervisor to handle the accident at the first moment and achieve real-time monitoring of substation equipments operating status. The article designed the development process of host computer software, including the login screen, monitoring interface, device configuration, alarm system, history system, arid report generation. Finally, the article completes the design of the host computer monitoring interface for condition monitoring system by using LabVIEW software. It has achieved the network operation of the entire condition monitoring system.
