The asphalt pavement damage occurs during its service time. The preventivemaintenance is to use an appropriate measure to protect the asphalt pavement at theappropriate time. It is widely used to adopt fog seal material to conduct preventivemaintenance. The bond energy of the main chain in the organic silicone is425kJ/mol.And the organic alkyl evenly distribute in the side chain. So, the organic silicone hassuperior water resistance performance and weatherability. Considering this, fourdifferent kinds of organic silicone materials were chosen to study their pavementperformance and determine the most suitable material for preventive pavementmaintenance. In addition, the preventive pavement maintenance effect of organicsilicone was compared with the commonly used preventive pavement maintenancematerial.First, freeze-thaw cycles, water permeability coefficient and adhesive work testwere used to analysis the water resistance of the organic silicone materials. The resultshowed the water resistance performance of the asphalt mixture treated by fourorganic silicone materials is more superior than untreated. Two points determined thesuperior water resistance performance of the organic silicone materials. Firstly, theorganic silicone material penetrate into the void of the asphalt mixture and form a netstructure to avoid the water. In addition, as the adhesive work between the water andorganic silicone is very low, the water cannot spread out easily and the running watercannot stay on the surface of the material. It can be found through additional analysisthat the water resistance performance of popyl silicone/octyl silicone blendingemulsion(POE) and popyl silicone/octyl silicone and nano-silica blending emulsion(PONSE) is more superior than methyl silicone resin dope and its emulsion. Themain reason can be attributed to the longer carbon chain contributed to the betterwater resistance performance.The second, the rheological properties test was used to evaluate theanti-ultraviolet aging performance of the organic silicone. The results showed that thebinder treated by POE and PONSE have a lower viscosity, better anti-fatigueperformance and stress relaxation performance at low temperature, the reason may be attributed to the longer carbon chain.The third, the results above showed that the POE and PONSE are more superiorthan the other two materials. In addition,PONSE is more expensive than POE. Atlast,the water resistance performance and anti-ultraviolet aging properties of thesetwo materials has few differences. So,the PONSE was determined as the mostsuitable organic silicone material for preventive pavement maintenance.At last, the performance of PONSE was compared with the commonly usedpreventive pavement maintenance material. The results showed that all of thematerials can reduce the water permeability coefficient to50ml/min. It can beobserved by the ultraviolet aging test that the anti-ultraviolet aging of PONSE is thebest among these materials. The reason can be attributed to that the lager energy ofSi-O. In addition, the CAP and Rjseal can reduce the anti-aging performance of thebinder as the materials rejuvenate the aged binder. The three point blending test andindirect tensile fatigue test also showed the superior anti-ultraviolet agingperformance. At last,the anti-skidding performance test showed that the dosage of350g/m2of these three materials has slight influence on anti-skidding performance.
