Shipbuilding industry is a complicated and scientific system engineering. Productoriented work breakdown structure (PWBS) is the foundation of modern shipbuildingmode; it concerns design, manufacture and management, etc. Shipyards using grouptechnology(GT) principles, with intermediate products as the guide, a detailed jobanalysis, through decomposition and combination, and balance to arrange productionand allocation of resources, thereby improving the production efficiency, shortenshipbuilding cycle, reduce the shipbuilding cost, finally achieve the goal of leanshipbuilding.In the process of shipbuilding, pipe processing for the cycle of product andquality all have great influence, it is the second large scale work after hull structure,pipe fabrication plan is important for the next hull structure assembly, if you can’tguarantee the pre-outfitting smoothly, is bound to increase the load of dockconstruction process, result in increasing docking period, affect mooring test and seatrial, even affect the whole ship construction schedule.This article’s research, firstly, expounds the pipe manufacture situation of bothdomestic and abroad by literature and shipyard researching, and the induction, thensorting and analysis. Secondly, based on the research of the work breakdown structuretheory, this paper expounds the product oriented work breakdown structure ofshipbuilding mode and the application of group technology. For pipe manufacture,this paper regards the material, size and quality characteristics as three core elementsof the pipe manufacture PWBS. Through the research of pipe manufacture PWBS,carried out the analysis of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard pipes manufacturingtechnology, including pipe manufacturing process decomposition and classificationgroups of methods. This paper studied pipe man-hour quota by BP neural networkbased on the pipe manufacture PWBS; this is positive significance for the efficiencyof pipe manufacture.Finally, this paper summarizes the research work, and made a prospect for futurestudy.
