Research On Adaptable Design Of Congregated Housing

Along with the development of the economy and urbanization, family structure andresidence demand has been changing. As the aging population increases in recent years,the residence demand of the elderly needs to be paid attention. In order to take c^e ofthe elderly better, much more people choose to live with their parents. What’s more,owing to the high housing price and some housing restriction policy, it’s difficult to buya new house. As a consequence, how to make a housing adapt to the changing demandbecomes a new topic. However, in order to meet the growing number of residential,developers concentrate more on the quantity and speed of congregated housing, anddesigners don’t have time to understand and research the changing demand of people.The residential design is still using the existing method which m^es the dwelling unittype could not satisfy the residents. According to the situation mentioned above, thisthesis mainly concentrates on the adaptable design of congregated housing.Firstly, this thesis concludes the development of adaptable design of housing inforeign countries as well as the adaptable design method of foreign countries by themean of document and case study. Then this thesis analysis the disadvantages in thehousing design and the demand of residents in different stages of family life cycle.Based on the former research mentioned above, this thesis puts forward somemethods of adaptable design of congregated housing. From the perspective of movingwalls, preparing doors and designing flexible space, this thesis gives some suggestionson the adaptable design of unit types. On the other hand, this thesis analysis theadaptable possibility between different unit types and comes up with several pointswhich could be considered when design congregated housing.At last, this thesis takes application to a project in Shanghai using the methodsconcluded before, coming up with adaptable programs for the project.Hope the research and practice in this thesis could provide references for the’residential design, strengthen the awareness of the residents changing demand, andimprove the quality of life.
