| Shanxi is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization the earliest, has a long history and profound cultural accumulation. Southeastern Shanxi residential buildings is the basis of local settlement unit, it with the vast majority of social members’life are closely linked. The architecture is a living fossil of the local folk culture and decorative art, the research on it has important academic value.In this paper, the southeastern Shanxi vernacular architecture as the main research object, through field investigation, first of all from the regional characteristics of the analysis, summed up the impact of the architectural space and the decorative arts of the natural and cultural background. Then the specific phenomenon respectively from the architectural space and the decorative art of classification of refinement. And further from the connection of the whole, the unified, in-depth analysis of the cultural spirit of the content. Through the list, comparison, summary and other research methods, the inherent characteristics of law. Then the results combined with the relevant contents of modern design, discusses the current in the context of the application and the development trend of the future.In this paper, from two aspects of the connotation of the southeast of Shanxi and the phenomenon of residential building space and decoration art study. Based on the available information on the analysis embodied in Southeast Shanxi vernacular architecture space and decoration art of the sense of order and narrative features, and the use of improved local traditional houses repair protection and regularity of the characteristics of the two aspects put forward some ideas and opinions.
