As an important joint part, hinge links the auto-body with the body side. The process of its traditional layout is very bald and sundry. It includes many manual operations to check again and again, and is very hard on engineer’s experience in the layout of door hinge. As a consequence, this has a great negative impact on the efficiency of the auto-body development. So, it is necessary to improve the process of traditional hinge layout, by developing new design system and tool on CATIA, which is the commonly used CAD software for designing auto-body.This thesis comes up with an intelligent layout system of door hinge based on secondary development of CATIA by analyzing the traditional layout process about door hinge and its disadvantages. Then, it develops the system of door hinge layout in the environment of visual studio 2005 and CAA R18 RADE, by the secondary development technology of CAA V5 R18 with C++language. The contents involve the secondary development technology of CATIA CAA, the interfacial design of the intelligent layout system about door hinge, the layout of hinge, the parting line design, the section design, and so on. This intelligent system can help engineer deal with the layout of hinge, the section analysis, the design of parting line, and the forecast, rapidly and precisely. It contributes to improving the efficiency of designing door hinge.The thesis includes following contents:(1) The appropriate design thought and rule are provided to develop the intelligent layout system of door hinge, by learning some basic concepts and technique about the secondary development of CATIA CAA.(2) The function requirement of the door hinge design system is summarized by analyzing the process and characteristic of hinge layout. The preliminary scheme and demanding functions are came up with to build the intelligent door hinge layout system based on CATIA CAA. They will be used to guide the follow-up work.(3) Under the guiding of preliminary scheme and demanding functions, the modules of intelligent system are designed and constructed, including building the frame, interfacial design, constructing the component modules, setting up the interfaces, implementing the algorithm and so on. (4) A certain hinge model and CAS are imported in the designed intelligent layout system of door hinge to check that whether the system is feasibility, steady, precise and expedite.
