In recent years, with the rapid development of mobile Internet and smart mobile terminals, the emergence of various types of ship navigation, monitor and management applications based on mobile platform opens up new application form for chart. However, just like other applications, most of mobile electronic chart applications are native applications customized for particular operating systems. Developers need repeated development and adaptation for different OS, even different versions of the same OS. Cross-platform becomes a bottleneck of its development.The appearance of HTML5 makes Web applications handle vector data including spatial data with position information, providing a new technical way to realize cross-platform electronic chart applications. Therefore, the paper researches deeply vector electronic chart display based on HTML5, then on its basis realizes mobile ship monitor application. The main work includes:(1) Drawing of chart complex symbols based on HTML5 canvasTaking anchorage areas as examples, according to S-52 display standard, the paper uses canvas API to research rendering techniques of complex lines and polygon symbols, including combination and rotation of line symbols and processing algorithms of centered symbols, etc. that lay a solid foundation for standard chart displaying.(2) The realization of mobile ship dynamic monitor applicationFor ship dynamic monitor application’s requirements, the paper uses canvas API to research and realize vector ship symbols drawing, ship pickup and information query, etc. Then researches HTML5 touch interfaces and realizes touch operation including chart drag, zoom and ship pickup, etc. Finally, mobile ship dynamic monitor application based on HTML5 is realized.According to development trend of mobile Internet, the research of ship dynamic monitor application based on HTML5 has good cross-platform feature. It could break the differences of mobile OS and get good application performance at lower cost. It not only has innovation in theory, but also has value in practice.
