Along with the improving of our national economy level, user dependency onelectricity is significantly increased. The improvement of power quality and powersupply reliability has become a top priority to achieve distribution automation. Theprimary task of power supply reliability improvement is to improve the distributionfeeder protection, shorten the fault outage time, reduce the damage caused by grade tripon the grid.In traditional feeder protection, fault handling is accomplished by repeatedlyre-closing, the damage to electrical equipment is relatively large in this method. For theshortcomings of traditional method, a feeder protection method based on surfaceprotection is researched, it is implemented by complete communication network anddistribution terminal (such as FTU, TTU, DTU) which is mounted on column switch, itis a feeder protection way of full line rate mobility distributed. The distribution terminaldevice can not only collect their own information, but also receive messages fromadjacent FTU through a complete two-way communication network, it can make anindependent fault judgment and switching action, and it is no longer dependent on thecontrol of distribution master and sub-stations.Based on the principle of surface protection, necessary conditions of faceprotection are discussed, related algorithms of surface protection are introduced.Relevant criterion of face protection is verified through typical case, meanwhile, feederterminal hardware and software systems are designed, it combines Informationcollection, performance monitoring, fault location, fault isolation, rapid restoration ofelectricity, and many other functions in one. Hardware design includes analogprocessing circuit, switch drive control circuit and communication module. Softwaredesign includes main program, data acquisition module and trip module, re-closingmodule, pressure loss closing module and communication module. Finally, feasibilityof the program is validated by simulation experiments.
