With the development of science and technology and improvement of people’s livingstandards, product requires diversification such as personalized, high efficiency, low cost andhigh quality. To success in the fierce competition, companies must meet customers’ demandsquickly for personalized products, and reduce product cost of design and manufacturing.Based on escalator product and parts, this thesis discusses product configuration designfundamentals, key technologies and systems. The overall contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, through the study of order product manufacturing features and configurationdesign, this thesis proposes product configuration of engineer-to-order. Six manufacturingobjectives are proposed, including time, quality, cost, flexibility, green and information. Thisthesis analyzes operational cooperation mode and design process in enterprises; studies theeffects of manufacturing process design on cost, quality and delivery period; Describes theconfiguration design connotation and three configuration design methods-modular, productfamily-oriented, parameterized. The overall configuration design research framework isproposed.Then, this thesis analyzes three key technologies of configuration design, combined withescalators and other orders. Standard function module configuration: to meet customers’demands, this section divides the overall model of escalators; transforms from the clientconfiguration model to product model of technology sector; provides configuration parametersand configuration process for the customer. Non-standard series configuration design: throughanalysis of the main model parameters about escalator’s parts, this section proposes threemethods based on Excel, VC++and Solidworks. Routing configuration design: the graphtheory methods is applied to manage the adjustment time of scheduling machining equipment,the Kuhn-Munkres and Hungarian algorithm are used to analyze the processing sequence. Inthe condition of a single machine and a constant number of machined parts, changing the orderof fixture scheduling process makes the total adjustment time to be the shortest time andimproves equipment utilization. The algorithm confirms that total adjustment time is optimalby instantiating, determines the best route processing operations. Finally, based on the above findings, the configuration design technology system oforders is designed. According to the different levels, the system is divided into basic data layer,function module layer and user interface layer. Depending on the configuration design’spractice applications, the function module layer is divided into customer-facing functionsconfiguration module, series configuration module, process route configuration module. Thespecific operation application methods of three function modules are elaborated.
