This thesis combines the Computer Aided Design (CAD) with the Computer AidedEngineering (CAE), using the top-down design technology of CAD and the finite elementcalculation method of CAE. Pro/Engineer gives us the opportunity to the combination of thetwo technologies together, which can make product design using top-down designtechnology, and can carry on structural finite element calculation. But the two processes areindependent, Designer’s model is used for production, including weld, discontinuous edgesand angles, etc. Continuous force transmission cannot be guaranteed, and therefore thismodel cannot be directly used for finite element calculation. How to enable the model ofdesigner to calculate directly with the simplest way? This is the problem studied in thispaper.The research contents of this paper selected from a cooperation project between aResearch Institute of Construction Machinery and Jilin University. This cooperation projectcalled Parametric Software Development of Lorry-Mounted Crane. Taking the typicalstraight arm lorry-mounted crane SQS500and folding arm lorry-mounted crane SQZ700as the research object, which is provided by the Research Institute. We establish the detailcalculation model of lorry-mounted crane which controlled by parameter using top-downdesign technology. The model includes the rotating platform, the base case, the rotarysupport, support legs, the vehicle frame and other components.First of all, we will use the layout module of Pro/Engineer complete the structurelayout for major parts of lorry-mounted crane, and give the main dimension parameters.Using the declaration delivered the relevant parameters in the layout model to the skeletonmodel, and then establishes a framework model. With the use of data sharing capabilitycomplete every main geometric part of lorry-mounted crane. After the building of themodel, into the Mechanic module of Pro/Engineer, to define the material, create the idealbeam, define load which is provided by the program calculation for the whole lorry-mounted crane, and generate batch files for realizing multi condition calculation. Finally, we compare the calculation results with the test results to verify the rationality of the model.With the Pro/Engineer, we combine the design of the model with the finite elementcalculation of the model. This combination help designers to save design cost, shorten thedesign cycle of the objective, and also lay a solid foundation for the development of seriesproducts.
