With the progress of the development of the times and technology, management method of China’s construction industry has been steadily progressing. Having been used in the construction industry, a variety of BIM tools have developed and played a unique role in the project, which makes BIM technology industry become a common tool. Cost control is the most important one of "three controls" in works projects. The traditional mode of cost control is based on the quality of the project, as far as possible to reduce spending, give priority to in order to save, reduce the error in the process of construction, so as to achieve the goal of cost control. To combine BIM technology with cost control, we can optimize project resources, arrange construction time limit for a project reasonably, avoid unnecessary waste, strengthen control and make cost control more efficient.This is also the trend of the future.After reading a large number of references and research achievements of predecessors, a project under construction in Dalian is taken as the analysis object to analyze the BIM technology in different stages of the project for the owners of units and contractors has different effects. Showing broad prospects of BIM technology in cost control, expect to strengthen the BIM technology combined with the engineering project cost control, promote China’s construction cost control work to develop the digital information, form the institutionalization and standardization of cost control to provide the reference.In this paper, the writer analyzes the practical application of BIM technology in project cost control. Combining the theory with previous research results, the paper expounds the connotation of cost control and BIM technology. Combining the cost control with BIM, the writer introduces the role of BIM technology in the engineering project cost control.
