Application and maintenance is an activity of eliminating and preventing the faults, and it is also the important guarantee of sustained using for EMU;It will make us face a severe test on application and maintenance of EMU due to the objective condition of LANZHOU-XINGJIANG PASSENGER DEDICATED LINE, such as the high temperature, the alpine,the high altitude,the strong blown sand, the intensive ultraviolet, the long locomotive routing and so on.At first, this paperconsideredsix factors of influencing the application and maintenance of EMU respectively, which are the track, the speed, the weather, the safety, the economy and comfort. With the method of Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), calculating and analyzing the Fault and the Importance of each system on two different sides, and researching the importance and failure of each system of EMU in the special environment on the line on the whole, we obtain that the Bogie, the Brake System, the Inside Environment System, the Body and the Connection of Vehicle of EMU which are the both important and easy to occurringfault, the Auxiliary Power Supply System is less important and seldom fault occurs of the EMU, and though the Train Network Control System is very important, but the failure rate of it is rather low, all above provide the basis for grasping the key of servicing the EMU.In the next place, these systems are correlative and independency, in order to analyze the external causes which lead to the faults of each system, we have studied the general trend, the fluctuation and distribution, and the relationship of the occurred faults on the eight system of the EMU, when it has been running on the line for some time, with the application of mathematical statistics and cluster analysis which is according to the real fault data. In general, the fault increased when the temperature decreased while it reduced when the weather became warmer, which is the basic law of thefaults. The reflection degree of each system to the external environment is different, so we have analyzedthe distribution and fluctuation of the faults with the use of Box-plot, Mena Value and Variance on each systemto distinguish this difference, and found that the Inside Environment System, the Body and the Connection of Vehicle, the Water Supply and Sanitation System are sensitive to the change of environment. At the same time, there is a certain connection of the faults in the systems. We want to seek this relation and find out the causality of faults by the way of using the Cluster Analysis on each system. We found that the association between High pressure traction System and the Bogie is greatly, the Auxiliary Power Supply System and the Train Network Control System are the same class, the Body and the Connection of Vehicle and the Inside Environment System and the Brake System are the same class, and the Water Supply and Sanitation System is a class. It showed that the faultswhich get into a class, which proved the occur of the faults are due to the similar inducement or the existed correlation.At last, according to the analysis results all above, we definite that The most effect to the application and maintenance of EMU is the Primary Repair, and the inspection and maintenance on part of some system, such as Cleaning and replacing the filter screen of air-condition of the Inside Environment System, cleaning the condenser of traction transformer, cleaning the Converter fin, checking and cleaning the high voltage insulator, and cleaning or replacing the apron board and so on, need reduce the repair cycle which also should arrange in the Primary Repair. Combing with the maintenance experiences since the EMU has operated on the Line, We have given theMaintenance cycle, the Work flow and the operation methodpreliminarily of the EMU which on the Line.
