The passenger aerial ropeway systems, which can be effective at reasonable cost, are of great importance for transit of mountains, valleys, steep slopes.When designing an installation, suitable means for rescue should be provided to facilitate the rescue of passengers. The passenger aerial detachable ropeways have been developed and produced independently in China in the past few years. It is necessary to develop our own rescue system used in this kind of large reversible aerial tramways.This paper summarized the so-called "horizontal rescue" which was designed along the first detachable ropeway domestically produced, Tianzhu Mountain ropeways. The rescue system was designed to be easily operated, economically affordable and effective in use. A unique high level rescue system was designed accordingly, the "Autodesk Inventor" program was used to improve the key components.This rescue system was certified by the National passenger ropeway safety supervision and Inspection Center and later used successfully in many other aerial ropeways, such as Emei Mountain ropeway and Jiugong Mountain ropeway.
