It creates 80 percent of world’s cargo volumes to achieve nearly one third of world trade value, and promote the development of economic globalization and the rapidly expansion of global cargo transportation. In 2007, shipping report data shows: Ship is as a transport medium of shipping industry, 3.3% of total global CO2 emissions were generated during transport and CO2 emissions will increase by 75% until 2020 in the current trends. Consequent environmental problems have been widespread concern in the international community, urgent need to find workable suggestions and measures to reduce the ship carbon footprint, to advocate the concept of resource conservation and green development of the shipbuilding industry.Ships carbon footprint was analyzed with combining the dimensions of time and space perspective. The research background, domestic and foreign research status and significance of carbon footprint were reviewed. On the basis, the economic behavior and space trajectory of ship in the entire life cycle and static and dynamic characteristics were analyzed; life activities of ship will the projected on the timeline, and its life cycle can be divided into four phases: design, construction, shipping and dismantling, each stage has a different decision-makers. To establish time and space network model based on temporal and spatial changes of ship to analyze motion paths and trajectories of ship in the life cycle. It also is the innovation of this paper.Further in-depth analysis was to explore the carbon footprint of ship throughout the entire life cycle by life-cycle theory with the life cycle as the time axis. The result shows that ship in design stage is conceptual product without economic activities that can generate carbon footprint; the sources of carbon footprint of ship in construction are transportation of materials and equipment, processing and production processes and trial operations; the work that bring carbon footprint is fuel combustion of ship at port and at maritime navigation. When the ship has been scrapped suspended into the dismantling stage, which can recovering some of the equipment and resources and produce carbon emissions. The carbon footprint source of ship in all stages and CO2 emissions reduced by all economic activities was analyzed with input-output method, and CO2 emissions produced by the economic activities in different spatial locations and different operating times and different accounting boundary and various objective conditions was discussed, and calculation formulas and statistical methods of CO2 emissions was obtained, and summed up the accounting method of carbon footprint of ship throughout the life cycle. Finally, "HUA YUN 5" bulk carriers were analyzed as an example, CO2 emissions of the ship at different stages, different forms of work and different spatial position was accounted. Accounting results show that the carbon footprint of shipping was the largest share in the operational phase, and draw a single line space-time network diagrams of ship based on the results and space-time network concept map of carbon footprint of ship in the entire life cycle. Then, the ways to reduce the carbon footprint and achieve sustainable development of shipbuilding industry was thought from the perspective of industry chain and environmental costs.
