In recent years, the problem of traffic congestion in major cities has become a major problem restricting urban development and urban transport. Local governments on the one hand by increasing road infrastructure to ease traffic problems, on the other hand by reassigning the right path right, open up a lane change or a few different period of time in the direction of travel, and increase the utilization of the resources of the road, namely to alleviate traffic congestions with little cost in the premise of no expansion of the road. Due to the shortage of current technology applications and researches, the indistinct of setting conditions, the bad timeliness of the switch timing and problems of the control technology, the paper try to do further research on tidal lanes based on the shoulders of relative experts and scholars at home and aboard. The paper is mainly about the setting conditions, designing method and switch timing, and it can be useful to the proper use and promotion of the tidal lanes.The paper studies the current situation, characteristics and factors of urban traffic congestions, fully draw on the experience of the congestion management. Through comprehensive research results at home and abroad and analysis of the causes and characteristics of the tidal flow of traffic, the causes of tides lanes can be found. The paper focus on the analysis of setting a condition of tidal lanes, and gives recommended values of the transport critical distribution factor, and gives the specific setting conditions of tidal lanes through the establishment of a model. The paper analysis the specific design method of tidal lanes, gives the specific design method of the markings, signs, starting point and ending point, and the traffic organization rehabilitation programs of the tidal lane at the intersections. Through the study of tidal lane control technology, gives the specific tidal lane running processes and management practices, the best time to switch and the adjustment model of tidal lanes.Finally, examples and VISSIM simulation verifications are used to confirm the results the tidal lanes to alleviate road traffic congestions, thus further demonstrated the feasibility of tidal lane implementation.
