In the teaching process of the major of auto maintenance in higher vocational college, the cognition of automobile structure and fault diagnosis is the most important content. But now in the process of education practice, students have little chance to carry out the fault diagnosis, and this leads to student’s poor learning enthusiasm and low education efficient. How to enable students to master relatively thorough fault diagnosis theoretical knowledge in a short time and improve the students’ fault diagnosis skills becomes a problem which needs teacher’s deep thinking and need to be settled urgently. Based on the above situation we need to develop a teaching auxiliary software which can vividly demonstrates the actual auto fault diagnosis process. The software can combine the classroom teaching with the actual auto fault diagnosis. Thus students can really learn the knowledge and foster students’ ability to solve actual problem.This system which is designed according to the actual teaching demand can meet the teaching requirements of the major of auto maintenance. With the theoretical knowledge’s visualization as core the system integrates school’s actual teaching conditions. The system is developed with the design idea “total solution-submodular-overall system”. First of all writer analyzes the problems in traditional theoretical teaching, then investigates students’ requirement of theoretical class, then develops the total solution; secondly carry out modular development and submodular testing and modification; lastly integrate all submodular to complete the development of the overall system. The system uses VB as development tool and Microsoft Office Access as database development tool so writer completes the development of this education system which is consistent with higher vocational student learning characteristics.The system makes good use of the existing teaching facilities in vocational colleges, and it can be used in classroom teaching and practice teaching. It makes the diagnose instruction appeared in the form of flow chart which replaces the numerous words. The writer tries his best to simplify the operation process, so students only need simple mouse operation to complete the fault diagnosis. Maintenance records in this system are drawn up according to automobile maintenance plant’s working procedure. Students can deeply learn the typical cases in the system, thus their ability to settle the practical problems can be improved. In teaching practice teachers can use the system together with virtual simulation software or the actual workshop to carry out practical training. So students can integrate theory with practice to reach the relatively ideal studying effect.
