Research Of The Design And The Post Occupancy Evaluation Of Jin Gu Square In Taigu Country In Shanxi Province

With a rapid development of economy and urbanization, the pursuit of spiritual and leisure life has been increasing gradually. City square, as one of the most demanded public space, is very important to peoples’ s leisure life.It seems that some designs of city square meet the requirment of humanization and localization, yet they are not the authentic outcomes of the primary design:for they neither lack of behavior analysis nor waste of space and economy resources. Apparently,it happens not only in metro cities but also in rural areas, especially in historical areas which are also tourist attractions. Shanxi, Taigu, which was famous for local business,has an characties of business culture. And it tends to be an important part of the Taiyuan city circle.The design of Jingu square is a typical city construction during the nothern-orented extend of Taigu. There for Jingu square has been chosen as a specific case of this paper.Due to the certain separation of design and practice, this paper explored the design and the actual construction from the perspective of landscape design and application of the theroy of post occupancy evaluation. It studied the development history of post occupancy evaluation, evaluation methord, disadvantages and the key public area of core region in historical cities with the analysis of Taigu urban pattern, especially focus on Jingu square design. By applying methods of field observations, random interviews,questionnaires, spatial behavior markings evaluation methord, the data could be obtained to analyze whether the objectives of the original design can be meet. The results shows that, the intention of Jingu square’s design has basicly conformed urbandesign, which can be shown from the semantic difference scale is positive. But the reduction of historical exhibition space weakened Jingu square’s culture atmosphere,and the useage of sub-space can not fully met the expectations. Thus, the study presents a few recommendations in order to improve Jinggu square, suach as in culture display,facilities increasement, enviornment protection and so on.Further more the paper also research into to the post occupancy evaluation method.Within new ideas, it puts forward the simulation of the semantic differential questionnaire and network survey to generate an objective evaluation. By applying modern virtual reality and simulation technology, possible improvements are suggested to post occupancy evaluation theory, new ideas were provided for diverting the post occupancy evaluation from afterwards evaluation in beforehand forecast.This paper bases on the analysis of post occupancy evaluation theory research and fieldwork data,a positive mechanism of post occupancy evaluation of city public space in historcial cities has been made up by Planing- Desigh-Feedback-Desigh-Planning model.Urban public space design should respect the historical urban pattern, such as the continuation of traditional life style, as well as to meet users ’ activities and psychological needs.The research could be referenced to the design of significant public area in historical city in the future.
