With the rapid development of civil aviation market, the layout complexities of large hub airports and the traffic movements on the airport surface are growing, and it’s more likely to erupt conflicts among aircrafts, ground vehicles and the obstacles, especially in low visibility conditions like heavy rain, thick fog or nighttime, which has posed serious threats to the efficiency and safety of airport operation. Researches on the conflict detection between airport surface movement targets mean a lot to reduce the surface conflict probability and ensure the safe and high efficient operation of airports. However, current studies about airport surface conflict detections are mostly carried out aiming at some specific conflicts, lacking systematic, universal and perfect conflict detection methods.Given this, on the basis of Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems(A-SMGCS) and its basic requirements for the conflict detection module, this paper focuses on the preprocessing of surface surveillance data, the establishment of airport movement unit database and the conflict detection scheme for airport surface movement targets, combined with the surface surveillance techniques such as Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast(ADS-B). The main research work of this paper can be divided into the following sections. Firstly, the techniques related to the airport surface conflict detection are introduced and analysed. The system framework of the conflict detection between airport surface surveillance movement targets is constructed at the same time. Secondly, the preprocessing of the surface surveillance data is detailed, including the ADS-B message analysis, the coordinate transformation and the movement target tracking, where the application of IMM-PF in airport surface movement target tracking is proved to be feasible and superior by numerical simulations. On the top of this, the conflict definition and the method of calculating the minimum safety clearance are illustrated directly against the conflicts between aircrafts or aircraft and ground vehicle. Considering the airport layouts, operation rules and sorts of conflict scenarios, the surface movement unit database is established, and the scheme of conflict detection between surface movement targets is proposed, whose feasibility is finally validated through the simulation experiment.
