Belt conveyor is the most widely used continuous bulk material transport equipment. Conveyor technology has also got a rapid development with the large-scale construction of large-scale coal mines during the Eleventh Five-year plan. A lot of belt conveyors of long distance、high speed and large capacity were developed and applied. Thus, higher requirement is requested in design. Static design is no longer applicable on a part of the belt conveyor. And accidents happen occasionally. So, it’s necessary to analysis all possible operating conditions, Especially the Harsh condition in the stage of design. Find out the maximum force of the parts and reinforce the weak parts. Also, we can limit the electric control system on account of the specific conditions of the belt conveyor. For example:to limit the minimum of the starting and the stopping time.The3D Virtual Prototyping Technology is applied to the analysis and design of the belt conveyor in this paper. The multi-body dynamics theory and the application perspective of the virtual prototype technology are introduced. The process of simplifying and modeling in multi-body dynamics software RecurDyn is completely described. Then we run the belt conveyor with two classical driving styles. They are direct starting and braking; controlled starting and braking with the curve of S. Then to analysis the change of various parameters in these two kinds of control mode on the belt conveyor is done. For example:the tension change of the in and out point of the driving roller、the tension change of the in and out point of the turnabout roller the sag variation on load segment and no-load segment、the tensioning roller dynamic characteristics and so on. To combine the selected control mode and the dynamic parameter can provide some boundary condition for the design and selection of the belt conveyor components.Because we just discuss the method to simulate the3D Virtual prototype. And it is limited to computer processing capacity and3D simulation calculation scale. We just get a belt conveyor of20meters simulated.The results obtained through simulation is basically same with our previous understanding on sensibility, but we can get more accurate result through simulation The tension calculation of the compacting is the product of the static tension value and the safety factor in conventional design. Then we can finalize the conveyor belt model through the tension value. But we can finalize the conveyor belt model through the tension value in the simulation. This shows that the simulation method described in this paper is an effective analysis method.
