Pneumatic booster can make the higher system operating pressure without increasing the air supply pressure. It is widely used in the field of automation engineering. At present, the selection of booster mainly depends on flow characteristic curves and filling curves on the sample, which provide the information of the selection is not rich.In this paper, a mathematical model of pneumatic booster is build, and the selection curves are obtained by analyzing of the dynamic characteristics. The main contents include:1. Using of the first law of thermodynamics, gas state equation, and the continuity equation, the mathematical model of the pneumatic booster is established. This model includes pressure equations, flow equations of the drive chamber, pressurized chamber, pressure chamber, and the equation of the piston.2. Established the simulation model by MATLAB/Simulink software, friction module, gas mass flow module, flow calculation procedure and flow selection module are written by S-function, and numerical model parameters are given. The dynamic characteristics of the pressurized chamber, a drive chamber and regulator chamber are analyzed through the simulation results. Selection program is written with the file M, and the characteristic curves, filling curves are obtained from the dynamic flow data, the pressure data of tank.3. Built the inflate experiment table of the booster, and written the data collection procedures. Through experiments and simulations, the pressure characteristic curves of the drive chamber, pressurized chamber, pressure chamber and the displacement curves of the piston were compared. Simulation and experiment are in good agreement, which shows the mathematical model and the simulation model of pneumatic booster established in this paper is reasonable.4. Selection methods and procedures of the booster are given by an engineering example. According to selection procedures of the booster, using of a pneumatic flow characteristic curves and characteristic curves obtained by simulation, the selection requirements of booster can achieve.
