As China’s Beidou satellite navigation system (BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, BDS) signal has been covered in Asia-Pacific Region, and mobile Internet technology develop rapidly,the vehicle networking based on satellite navigation systems and mobile Internet communications technology plays the crucial role in vehicle remote management and scheduling.Intelligent traffic system, also called intelligent transportation system, uses advanced information technology, computer technology and data communication technology in a comprehensive way for transportation. With the continuous development of ITS and constant updating of the main part of ITS, the intelligent vehicle terminal which is regarded as the most important part of ITS, realizes the dynamic monitoring and management of the running vehicle by integrating the satellite navigation technology, mileage positioning technology and automobile black box technology. The intelligent vehicle terminal also achieves the dynamic positioning tracking, monitoring, safety warning and centralized scheduling of the vehicle through real-timely and accurately displaying the dynamic state of the vehicle on the GIS platform.According to the actual demand of Chinese market, combined with the "intelligent vehicle terminal project", the design of intelligent vehicle terminal has four basic functions by using the key technology of intelligent vehicle terminal on the basis of understanding of research and design on the intelligent vehicle terminal by domestic and foreign scholars. The four basic functions include obtaining the current position, speed, time and other information of the vehicle based on BDS/GPS dual mode positioning and navigation function;realizing remote monitoring and scheduling of vehicles by background monitoring center based on GSM/GPRS network realizing short range communication between vehicles based on the radio in order to realize safety warning service when lateral distance and course distance between vehicles are less than certain threshold values;achieving real-time display in the GIS platform based on the Android operating system in order to obtain the information of vehicle and road in real time and make judgments in advance.In this paper, the functions of intelligent vehicle terminal are studied and designed mainly from two aspects of hardware and software. In terms of hardware, including the board main control module, BDS/GPS module, radio module, WIFI module and serial to WIFI module, and in terms of software, including the socket communication based on UDP protocol and the terminal APP based on the Android operating system. The research results are summarized, and the next step of work is prospected at the end of this paper.
