The damage of wooden ancient building surface is serious because of long time exposure of natural environment. At the same time, material characteristics of wooden ancient building lead to frequent fire accident. To protect the wooden ancient buildings against the erosion of natural environment and fire hazard, first of all, choosing appropriate coatings which have nice weather resistance and fire retardant for wooden building surface is necessary. Nowadays choosing the species of coatings for wooden ancient buildings is one of the difficulties of the protection of ancient buildings. In this paper, according to the performance characteristics of all kinds of coatings, chose five coatings which coated on wood surface including acrylic resin coating, polyurethane resin coating, fluorocarbon resin coating, epoxy resin coating and organic silicon coating under the joint action of ultraviolet light, condensation, temperature and humidity, and then studied the weather resistance of different aging time. The physical appearance, chemical structure and adhesion were analyzed by the electron microscope, FT-IR spectrometer and cell adhesion analysis method respectively.The experimental results indicate that five coatings had been damaged under the joint action of ultraviolet light, condensation, temperature and humidity, and the coating damage tended to be more serious with the increase of aging time. From the point of whether physical appearance changed, the order of the damage severity was fluorocarbon resin coating< organic silicon coating< acrylic resin coating< polyurethane resin coating≈epoxy resin coating. From the point of whether chemical characteristic groups changed, the order of the damage severity was organic silicon coating≈fluorocarbon resin coating< acrylic resin coating< polyurethane resin coating≈epoxy resin coating. From the point of the adhesion falling grade, the order of the damage severity was epoxy resin coating≈organic silicon coating< fluorocarbon resin coating< acrylic resin coating< polyurethane resin coating. Synthesized three judgments including physical appearance, chemical structure and adhesion, the order of weather resistance of five coatings was fluorocarbon resin coating> organic silicon coating> acrylic resin coating≈polyurethane resin coating≈epoxy resin coating. So fluorocarbon resin coating which had the best weather resistance in the five coatings was the best choice for wooden ancient building surface.
