Datong: Research On The Implementation-oriented Conservation Planning Of Residential Historic Conservation Area

Datong has a long-standing history and solid cultural accumulation, there is still a large population in the Gulou east-street and west-street historic conservation areas, and the traditional lifestyle that they carry is and will be an important part of the history and culture of Datong now and in future. This is the very value of the residential historic conservation areas of Datong. Therefore the protection and renewal of the historic conservation areas and the organic existence of the residential function is a significant issue to the development of society and economics.Now in China some historic conservation area conservation plans and their implementation are irrelevant. This paper is based on the research of the historic preservation theory, organic renewal theory, urban catalyst theory, stake-holder theory and public participation theory. It gathered the new developments of protecting and renewal method and key issues in the field of historic area by the study of cases in China and other counties. It traced the evolution progress of old city of Datong, summarized the problems that left over over its long history and potential opportunities in the future of its historic areas. Through the immense site investigate and resident survey to the historic areas, this paper formed a systemic structure of the protection and renewal strategies of the plan and its implementation and put it into practice to check it.
