Located in the south of China, Guangdong Province has been one of the most important portals for the foreign trade of China. The harbors in Guangdong Province are the earliest departed harbors of the Ancient Maritime Silk Road. Thanks to its geographical location and the policy support of the Central Government, Guangdong Province has obtained a rapid development since 1978, the beginning of the China Reform and Opening. The rapid development of foreign trade promotes both the economic growth of the hinterlands and cargo throughput of coastal harbors. Thus, one of the densest hinterland-sharing port group has been formed in Guangdong Province. The goods flow between the hinterlands and the coastal harbors requires the support of a powerful and efficient collecting and distributing system. However, there is a large development imbalance between different transportation modes in the collecting and distributing system of Guangdong Province. The road network endures great transportation pressure while the development of the waterway network is lagging behind. According to statistics, the transportation volume of the waterway network is only 10% of the total the transportation volume of all transportation modes in Guangdong Province. The waterway transportation has not been fully developed. The congestion of the transportation system in cities and the environmental pollution have become more and more serious. Therefore, to get a better future construction plan, it is of utmost important for us to analyze the collecting and distributing system in Guangdong Province.Multimodal transport is an advanced transportation mode combining the advantages of different transportation modes. In western countries, multimodal transport is usually considered as an efficient method for transportation system optimization. In this research, the collecting and distributing system in Guangdong Province will be analyzed. By analyzing the core elements and collecting data, the model of the collecting and distributing system in Guangdong Province will be built. Then, some affected factors, such as carbon emission and road/channel capacity, will be taken into consideration to build the model of the multimodal collecting and distributing system in Guangdong Province. By solving this model, we can get some important information, which is of great importance for both the government and the companies in transportation area.
