The development of highway network and the development of regional economy are interacting and interrelated. The imbalance between the two arises when the development of highway network outstrips or lags the development of regional economy. When the highway network lags behind, it sets limitations to highway transportation. On the other hand, when the highway network outstrips the development of economy, economic investment might not be optimized. In this paper the adaptability analysis between highway network and regional economy development is conducted in order to boost the development of highway transportation in harmony with regional economy and transportation needs, in hope of providing theoretical foundation and reference for governmental decisions highway construction planning.The qualitative analysis on the interacting relation between highway network and regional economy development is conducted, and then the quantitative correlation analysis between the two is conducted using linear regression so as to study the interacting relation between the two from a scientific and comprehensive standpoint.Following the principles of selecting evaluating index system – purpose and feasibility, sufficiency, hierarchy, and simplicity – the evaluating index system of highway network is constructed by taking into consideration the development level of highway network, the scale of transportation, the speed of vehicle development; and the evaluating index system of regional economy is constructed by taking into consideration the scale, trade, investment level, consumption level etc.Upon a comprehensive analysis amongst various evaluation methods, the entropy method is selected for the comprehensive evaluation of highway network and regional economy. With entropy method, the current development situation of highway network and regional economy of the 21 cities of Guangdong in 2014 is evaluated.The relationship between highway network and regional economy is defined and categorized as lagging, coordinating, and outstripping. The threshold value of adaptability analysis is [-0.3, 0.5]. The adaptability analysis of highway network and regional economy of the 21 cities of Guangdong between 2006 and 2014 is conducted by principal component analysis.By comprehensively utilizing entropy method and principal component analysis, the adaptability status is evaluated between highway network and regional economy development from a scientific, comprehensive and objective standpoint. Upon this foundation, the comprehensive evaluating analysis method of highway network and regional economy development is put forward.
