Nowadays, the competitive construction industry imposes new challenges for managing modern construction projects. The necessary coordination between contractor and clients becomes crucial to develop modern projects, as well as new strategies more realistic and applicable to nowadays constructions projects using massively applied methodologies by the construction industry in general, and also to isolate the critical sectors that need more attention, and that influence directly on the flow of the project. This study proposes an alternative methodology for construction management combining Critical Path Method(CPM), which has been massively applied around the world since 1958 s to, and the successful Lean Construction based on Lean Production System derivate from Toyota Production System(TPS). This thesis explores different points of view concerning how to plan construction projects, reducing wastes and filling customer’s expectation on the final product as well as the status of different methodologies for planning and scheduling projects. The research sets strategies that must be taken in account in order to get expected results and an optimized construction projects performances and the success of the methodology itself. The strategies are defined according the theories and putting in practice of both methodologies separately so that they can mutually fill the gap that both methodologies have according to the researcher point of view. Critical Path Method(CPM) fills the subjectivity and human dependence that Lean Construction has, and, on the other hand Lean Construction releases Critical Path Method(CPM) of the unclearness and unsuccessfulness to reduce wastes that this method has had. The results of this empirical research are presented and discussed. This research seeks to arouse the interest of managers engage in construction industry searching for an alternative proposal for construction management that aims to reduce waste and unclearness in construction projects execution.
