Tourists, being the subject of tourism activities, objects of tourism service industry, knowing their modes of behavior and the occurring mechanism will help tourism destination planners to better understand the process of tourism activities and the needs of tourists. And this is also crucial for optimizing tourism products and improving the quality of tourism experience.Qingdao, as one of China’s first batch of outstanding tourism cities, with the rapid development of its tourism industry, also facing a number of bottlenecks, to resolve these problems and to bring its tourism development to the next level, the local government set up the "Three Transformations" goal regarding tourism products, the growth pattern of tourism, tourism environment and quality in "Twelfth Five-Year Tourism Development Plan for the Qingdao Tourism Industry".In view of this, this study takes the tourists spatial and temporal modes of behavior in Qingdao tourism destinations as the research object, try to apply the time geography into the study of tourists spatial-Temporal behavior. Based on the empirical research on tourists’ temporal-spatial modes of behavior, this study tries to explain the tourists’ spatial-temporal behavior through analysis of on-line travel notes, then put forward the optimization suggestions on Qingdao tourism destinations spatial-temporal modes of behavior.Studies have shown that:in Qingdao tourism destination, tourists’ spatial-temporal modes of behavior can be clustered into five types, namely type Ⅰ-"L-Shaped around the front sea area city marks3-Day Tour mode", type Ⅱ-" straight line across the old town of the City-South Area3-Day Tour mode", type Ⅲ-" S-Type across Island depth tour mode, type Ⅳ-"arc across Island3-Day Tour mode, type Ⅴ-" V-Shape Peninsula elastic mode; most Qingdao tourists tend to choose a route with a wider geographically coverage and across the city from east to west.Based on empirical study of tourists’ spatial-temporal modes of behavior, this research analyzes the driving factors behind the tourists spatial-temporal behavior and then summarizes in three points:Firstly, the environmental capacity of traditional tourism attractions needs to be upgraded and optimized; secondly, the "hot" and "cold" degree among different tourism attractions needs to be balanced; thirdly, the recreational function of existing tourism attractions needs to be improved. In this regard, this study offers below optimization suggestions for the tourism destination planners:Firstly, to strengthen the environmental protection and capacity control in tourism attractions; Secondly, to promote industrial linkage-rich area connotation; Thirdly, to enhance tourism marketing of Qingdao tourism destination, using the "hot" tourism attractions to promote the "cold" ones; Fourthly, to strengthen the construction of the infrastructure and facilities in Qingdao tourism destination. The findings have high values for Qingdao tourism destination local government and related tourism enterprises. Grasping the spatial-temporal modes of local tourists and understanding the actual utilization of tourism products and facilities, will provide guidance for product structure adjustment and management optimization, which will ultimately lead to our goal of "three transformations". Taking into account the limitations of the data collection, this study still has space to be improved in future.
