This study aimed at investigating effect of Chinese herbal ultra-fine powder on production performance, liver, kidney function and cholesterol content of egg with three different chicken breeds. Ninety 300-day-old Chongren Ma chicken, Yugan black chicken and Hy-Line variety brown chicken with similar body weight and laying rate were selected and randomly assigned into 2 groups (control group and treatment group), each group with 3 replicates and each replicate with 15 chicken, respectively. The control group were fed with basal diet, and the treatment group were fed with the basal diet added to by 1% Chinese herbal ultra-fine powder for 60 days.6 birds of each group were randomly selected and euthanized, and eggs, blood, liver and kidney was sampled on Id,15d,30d, 45d, and 60d, respectively. All eggs of groups was collected for counting average daily laying rate and average egg weight, and measuring egg cholesterol level. Whole blood was collected from wings vein for measuring blood parameters and preparing for serum. The blood biochemistry and antioxidant level in serum was measured. The liver and kidney were sampled and fixed in 10% buffered formaldehyde immediately and routinely embedded to pathological paraffin sections. Pathological changes examined by an optical microscopy. The results were as follows:1. Compared to the control group, the average daily laying rate of Chongren Ma chicken and Hy-Line variety brown chicken increased(P<0.05) after adding the traditional Chinese medicine compound submicron powder to diet. The average egg weight of Yugan black chicken decreased(.P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the feed intake with three different chicken breeds(P>0.05).2. Compared to the control group, there was no significant difference in blood routine examination, liver function and renal function in three different chicken breeds(P>0.05).3. Comparing to the control group, no significant difference was observed in antioxidant function (SOD, MDA, GSH-PX activities) of three varieties treated groups(P>0.05). There was no obvious change in treatment groups comparing with control group from pathological observation.4. The egg cholesterol content of three varieties treated groups decreased significantly. Within the group comparison, three varieties of chicken was not significant difference were observed in the control group during the test period (P>0.05), The cholesterol level of Chongren Ma chicken on 30d decreased significantly comparing with it on Id and 15d (P<0.05). and 45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with it on Id,15d and 30d (P< 0.05).The cholesterol level of Yugan black chicken on 15d,30d,45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with control group (P<0.05). The cholesterol level of Hy-Line variety brown chicken on 30d,45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with it on Id and 15d (P<0.05).Comparing among groups, the cholesterol level of treatment group of Chongren Ma chicken on 30d,45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with control group(P<0.05). the cholesterol level of treatment group of Yugan black chicken on 30d, 45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with control group(P<0.05). the cholesterol level of treatment group of Hy-Line variety brown chicken on 30d,45d and 60d decreased significantly comparing with control group(P<0.05).The result showed that the addition of 1% Chinese herbal ultra-fine powder in diet may decrease the egg cholesterol level of three varieties chicken and elevate the laying rate. Meanwhile, the addition made no difference on blood routine examination, biochemical function and antioxidant function. No abnormality was observed from chickens in our experiment. The result suggested that the herbal formulas can be used as a feed additive in our study period.
