Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit is a perennial herbaceous plant of Araceae. The driedtuber is used as a common Chinese medicine, included in the each version of ChinesePharmacopoeia. It is pungent in flavor, mild in nature, slightly poisonous. It is usually used totreat the diseases such as phlegm cough, phlegm dizziness palpitation, phlegm reversalheadache, vomiting nausea, stuffy feeling in chest, globus hysteriocus, etc. When it is used asmedicine orally, Pinellia tuber must be processed. And after having been processed, thetoxicity will be reduced. But the toxic constituents, toxicity and processingmechanism are inconclusive.In this thesis, electrochemical oscillation characteristics of Pinellia ternata andcorresponding process products were studied in detail. Chemical components of Pinellaternata and chemical oscillation mechanism induced by Pinella ternata were tested by GC-MSand ICP-MS technologies and the compositions of trace amounts of elements were comparedamong Pinellia tubers produced in different years, different regions, different seeds, and wildand cultivated. It was found that chemical oscillation graph of Pinella ternata possessedspecific characteristic and could be exploited as an electrochemical fingerprint for itsrecognition.(1) There are two kinds of organic acids with difference reduction potentials in pinelliataking part in the B-Z oscillation reactions. They can dissolve both in acid and alkali. Thesesubstances are dissolved out stepwisely and sequently reacted with oscillation matrix so thatthe oscillation curves showed a segmented double oscillation characteristic. By compared B-Zoscillation graphs of Pinellia tuber, ginger processed pinellia and Rhizoma PinellinaePraeparata,they have obvious different. When the addition amount of Pinellia ternata is small,chemical oscillation pattern shows double oscillation curve. When the addition amount ofPinellia ternata is very large, chemical oscillation pattern only shows a single oscillating curve.And the oscillation of Rhizoma Pinellinae Praeparata is opposite. But ginger pinelliaoscillation pattern is not affected by the amount of samples and it is only a single oscillationcharacteristics.(2) Contents of trace elements in pinellia and processed pinellia ternata had a greatdifference. Content of manganese and iron in processed products exceeded those in Pinellia ternata, but content of magnesium was nearly lower than that in Pinella ternata. Contents oftrace amounts of elements have a big difference between wild Pinella ternata produced inWudu District and cultivated Pinella ternata in Xihe County. The content of calcium waslower, but the contents of magnesium, zinc, nickel and iron are higher in Pinella ternataproduced in Wudu District. It showed that the growth process and growth environment ofChinese herbal medicines both caused probably a change of the contents of trace amounts ofelements contained. The contents of trace amounts of elements from five different towns inXihe County were almost the same except for Hekou, where Pinella ternata was usuallyplanted in sands in mountain. Particular soil conponents possiblly caused much highercontents of calcium, iron, zinc and manganese and about half lower content of magnesiumthan those in other towns. The contents of thace amounts of elements had also obviousdifference in Pinella ternatas produced in different years in the same place. But they werealmost the same from different places of seeds, but planted in the same palce. It indicated thatgrowth environments of Pinella ternatas, especially soil components, had a remarkableinfluence on the contents of trace amounts of elements.(3) The chemical composition of the volatile oil of Pinellia ternata was analyzed byGC-MS. The organic components in the extracting solutions extracted by steam distillationand Soxhlet extraction methods as well as ether extract after the B-Z chemical oscillationreactions taking part in pinellia were also analyzed by GC-MS.
