Objective:To observe the effectiveness and the possible mechanisms of“Hua Tan Tong Fu”decoction, which is used to prevent pulmonary infections of acute stroke with the syndrome of phlegm heat and bowel excess.Methods:60 patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. Each group have 30 cases. The two groups both were given basic treatment. Treatment group were given Chinese medicine on the basis of basic treatment. Observation were stoped in the treatment of 1 week or lung infection pulmonary infections diagnosised.Consummating the relevant laboratory data statistics and recording the symptoms and signs of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) as well as neural function defect scales before and after the treatment.Chinese medicine symptom scores were recorded also. Results: The incidence of pulmonary infection of treatment group patients was 16.7% and 40% in the control group, and the results of two groups compared had a statistically significant difference(P<0. 05);Neural function defect scales, traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores had improved within each group and between two groups, and there was statistically significant difference(P<0. 05). For patients who suffered from pulmonary infections, CRP,ESR between the two groups had statistically significant difference(P<0. 05),while PCT had no statistically difference(P>0. 05) after the treatment.Conclusion:1. “Hua Tan Tong Fu” decoction can effectively prevent incidence of pulmonary infection of acute stroke with the syndrome of phlegm heat and bowel excess.2. “Zhi Wei Bing” and “ the lung associated with large intestine”theory applied to patients with acute stroke play a positive role in improving the prognosis, providing a reference for Chinese medicine in the clinical application of stroke.
