Chapter I The correlation between gastroesophageal reflux disease and cervical spondylosisObjective:To investigate the correlation between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and cervical spondylosis and indicate whether cervical spondylosis is a possible pathogenesis of GERD.Methods:321 cases of cervical spondylosis diagnosed by clinical symptoms and MRI were included into cervical spondylosis group. At the same time,249 healthy volunteers were included into control group. The RDQ questionnaire were completed in both:groups in order to find out whether the two groups’RDQ score and GERD incidence had significant difference, to investigate the correlation between neck pain degree and RDQ score, and to find out whether different cervical spondylosis types had difference in RDQ score and GERD incidence. Results:RDQ score was obviously higher in cervical spondylosis group than control group (P<0.05).Those with RDQ≥12 were considered to get GERD, and the GERD patients were 43 cases (13.4%) in cervical spondylosis group and 17 cases (6.8%) in control group. The GERD incidence of cervical spondylosis group was obviously higher than that of control group (P<0.05). Patients with different degree of neck pain have different RDQ scores (P<0.05). In all types of cervical spondylosis, sympathetic nerve type had significantly higher RDQ score and GERD incidence than other types (P<0.05).Conclusion:Patients with cervical spondylosis have a higher incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially for sympathetic nerve type. The pathogenesis of GERD is possibly correlated with cervical spondylosis.Chapter Ⅱ Risk factors of cervical spondylosis with GERDObjective:To investigate risk factors of cervical spondylosis with GERD.Methods:According to RQD score standard,321 cases of cervical spondylosis diagnosed by clinical symptoms and MRI were divided into GERD positive group and GERD negative group. Both groups were required to complete questionnaires in order to insure whether gender, age, body mass index, smoking, drinking, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and psychological factors are related to cervical spondylosis with GERD by statistical analysis. Results:Female, NSAID and psychological factors are major risk factors of cervical spondylosis with GERD.Conclusion:Among patients with cervical spondylosis, those female, with NSAID history and in bad mental psychological states like anxiety and depression are easier to have gastroesophageal reflux symptoms.
