ESP (English for Special Purposes) originated from late 1960s is a kind of English which relates to a particular occupation, subject or purpose or English Courses which is set up according to learners’ particular purpose or needs. It combines EGP (English for General purposes) with a particular purpose, constantly absorbs the information and can meet the learners’requirements of other professional knowledge. Teaching objective is characterized by clear, targeted, practical and high value. Its formation and the emergence are not only the world’s economic development needs, but also the development of linguistic revolution.ESP is very important, but doesn’t receive the attention it deserves due to various reasons in our country. So the results of some of the courses are not satisfactory, or even a mere formality. As a discipline under construction, ESP will inevitably face some challenges, have some problems, and even experience the misuses.In the development process of vocational ESP education, what about the effect of the implementation? Which factors impact the implementation of ESP education? How to improve the effect of ESP education? In this thesis we look over ESP education at home and abroad. I try to take Hunan Mechanical & Electrical Polytechnic as an example, through empirical research, investigate and analysis ESP education in undergraduate students. Put the ESP students as the research object, from the perspective of the students to find out current problems in vocational ESP education. Through investigation, data analysis, interviews and literature research, I try to explore vocational ESP education from both theoretical and practical aspects. Through the analysis of the current implementation of vocational ESP education, try to explore the factors which impact and constraint ESP education then through attribution analysis, to identify such factors and explore the development of specific strategies in vocational ESP education.Through the survey, we know the vocational ESP education has same main problems:the majority of the students are quite incompetent to express their own ideas in a simple way; large classes in China are generally not conducive to the interaction between teachers and students; the lack of course materials and ESP teachers and so on.The main reasons are:the lack of excellent ESP teachers, the students are lack of enthusiasm, teaching methods and means are not suitable, the absence of an environment and conditions of ESP education and lack of management control. In order to improve the effect of ESP education in vocational college, this study tries to make the following responses: firstly, the leaders should fully understand the necessary and importance of ESP education, and implement it gradually on the basis of school actual situation; Secondly, enhance teacher training; Thirdly, play a study of ESP students in the initiative; Fourthly, use teaching materials and related reference materials scientifically; Fifthly, take appropriate teaching methods according to the difficulty of ESP education; Lastly, set up a comprehensive evaluation system of ESP education.Therefore, this research is based on the purpose of exploring vocational ESP teaching in China, seeking more effective methods to improve the ESP teaching as a starting point. On the basis of the analysis of the case of ESP, to analyze the current problems exist in vocational ESP education, propose appropriate countermeasures and to make some contribution to achieving the ideal state of vocational ESP education.
