In1998, the animated film "Mulan"that produced by the Walt Disney Company with a waste of money, is the combination of the ancient Chinese traditional culture and American movies with the Creative Features of the product. After a lapse of ten years, the animated film,"Kung Fu Panda", produced in2008by DreamWorks, made the whole world began to recognize the emphasis on values and living conditions, which was once taken as the outdated thoughts, such as the ancient Confucian and Taoist philosophy, collectivism, and living within our means and so on.From1998’s "Mulan " to2008’s "Kung Fu Panda ", one decade past, it can be said that Americans understand the Chinese culture more and more deeply, and more close to the Chinese reality. The two films deal with the culture through cultural transformation, the purpose of this thesis is how to convert and how about the effectiveness of conversion.The so-called cultural transformation is used to describe the cultural integration and convergence, refers to a process that a culture was absorbed, transformed, updated to become the new culture form, which relating to the original cultural content or form of culture change, it’s a strong gradual process. Both the two films were processed through cultural transformation of Chinese culture."Mulan" is the Chinese Mulan which basically under the thinking of United States, Chinese culture were all represented by the style of United States.Ten years later, the "Kung Fu Panda", with the deeper understanding of Chinese culture, more details of the problems were deal led like the style of Chinese, however, due to the different cultural background, it led to some misunderstanding of Chinese culture. Rational culture conversion can make the people and the alien culture of audience groups accept them more easily and better; conversely, adverse consequences can be produced. Not only provide error of the cultural information to the alien culture background, letting the audience the alien culture misunderstand, but also make audience which having the culture of the tribe unsatisfied.This paper will use the theory of cultural transformation, with the combination a variety of Chinese elements in the films "Malan" and "Kung Fu Panda", to study the misunderstanding of Chinese culture and the success and failure of cultural transformation. It will analysis the deeper and deeper understanding of Chinese culture and the process that construction of China, illustrate whether the cultural transformation is successful, and the consequences.
