The purpose of language teaching for foreigners is to develop students’ communicativecompetence, which can make students express themselves and communicate with others byusing Chinese correctly and properly. Communication is the essence of language. Chinesefilm and television resources provide students with real and vivid language materials, helpingstudents to imitate and learn, thereby enhancing the level of Chinese communication.In the TCFL practice, many teachers have consciously introduced Chinese films andtelevision resources as Foreign Language teaching materials into their teachings. Someexperts and scholars have held some heated discussions on a range of issues. But differentfrom traditional films, microfilms are just becoming known as a new kind of media. What’smore, discussions about introducing microfilms to the TCFL practice have not been openedup in the TCFL circle.This paper is based on some research of introducing microfilms into TCFL as teachingmaterials. It also discusses the use of microfilms as teaching materials, practical teachingprinciples and some problems needed to focus on in the theme teaching. Some my ownopinions are put forward as well.To give specific explanations, a class of a complete set of instructions of teaching isdesigned. Designed for students of primary Chinese learners, the microfilm Take HappinessHome is a teaching material, introducing how to combine microfilm with teaching Chinese asa foreign language, how to use microfilm for training students’ abilities such as listening,speaking, reading, writing and other basic language skills.This paper aims to explore a teaching mode of the integration of microfilm and theChinese as a foreign language audio-visual teaching. We wish for more researchers to noticethe advantages of microfilm of Chinese as a foreign language in order to promote Chineseteaching as a foreign language.
