A Translation Project Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Selection Of New Business Era

The translation task comes from articles from the New Business Era, a magazine issuedby the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) ChongqingSub-committee, belongs to the business translation. Chinese economic news ischaracterized by lots of terms and words with Chinese Characteristics, fixed languagestyle, declarative sentences in the majority, since its categorical attribute requires thelanguage style to be objective. While translating articles from economic magazines, thetranslator will usually keep the overall language style rigorous, serious and specific. Theauthor has brought in the “skopos theory” proposed by German intellects as thetheoretical guide in the process of translation practice, so that to make the informationof the translation close to the target readers’ cognitive abilities to the largest extent.Through the analysis of the selected articles, the author then discussed the problemsencountered in the process of translation and the solutions to the problems, from boththe word and sentence levels. The major problem lies in the cohesion and coherence ofthe version and the rendering of culture-bound words. Due to differences in the culturalbackground of Chinese and English languages, expression habits are quite different. Bycomparison with examples, the similarities and differences in Chinese and Englishexpressions are shown clearly, whose solution is to pay attention to translation strategiesfor words and sentences. Choose the appropriate translation strategies according to thepurpose of each sentence, timely convert and adjust the translation methods, so as tonarrow down the cognitive distance between the source texts readers and the translatedtexts readers. By analyzing the rhetorical, lexical and grammatical meaning of wordsand sentences, combined with the skopos theory, the author has analyzed the versioncompletely.
