Report On The Effective Interpreting Skills For English Long Difficult Sentences In The Simulation Of Consecutive Interpreting Of Speeches On Joint Opening Session Of The Fifth Round Of Strategic And Economic Dialogue

This practice report takes speeches delivered by American representatives onjoint opening session of the fifth round of China-US strategic and economic dialogueas its research material. As a kind of conference interpreting, it belongs to the form ofconsecutive interpreting.Consecutive interpreting means interpreters start to interpret when speakersfinish a portion of or the whole speech, which can be adopted on occasion of lecture,negotiation, conference speaking, press conference and so on. One of most difficultproblem interpreters may come across in consecutive interpreting is the interpreting oflong difficult sentences. This report, on the basis of my own experience of mockconference interpreting, explores some interpreting skills and ways on the interpretingof long difficult sentences. The author hopes this report can be beneficial to readers.The process of interpretation is to pass meanings. In this process,what principlesinterpreters should follow and what corresponding measures they should take stillremain hot topics. As far as the author’s opinion, interpretive theory had given us agood explanation on this issue. It stresses the three stages of interpreting—understanding the meaning of the original text, casting off the expressive form of theoriginal text and expressing the main meaning in target language, which have apositive guiding significance to the research and practice of interpretation.Under the guidance of interpretive theory, combining with my own interpretingexperience, this report explores the effective interpreting skills for long difficultsentences—cutting method along the sentence, embedding method, inverseinterpreting method and so on. All the above means or techniques are the summary ofmy own practical experience. I hope readers can get some inspiration from them.
