A Reflective Report On The E-C Translation Of Production Process Introduction

English is the most widely used and influential language in the world. With thedevelopment of economy, the progress of science and technology, the increase offoreign exchange and the global integration process, more and more translators haveto deal with popular science English materials. Popular science English uses plainlanguage to convey knowledge to the public in order to improve the scientific literacyof the public and expand their knowledge. This report is based on the E-C translationof production process introduction.The author has translated some production process introductions, and finds thatpopular science English has many characteristics, such as vivid language, shortsentences, interesting words, etc. In a sense, popular science English is more or lesssimilar with daily English, and hence appeals to the public readers. This requires thetranslators to adopt some flexible methods under the guidance of translation theoriesand strategies without sticking to the meaning of some words and phrases, and thenrender the source texts into the target texts which meet the need of readers.This report aims to summarize five translation strategies through the analysis ofsome errors with examples, such as proper translation of technical and semi-technicalterms; rearrangement of sentence structure; acquiring background knowledge to avoidmisunderstanding; accuracy translation of key information concerned numbers;aesthetic translation of the last sentence.These translation strategies are helpful toimprove the author’s translation level, and can offer some suggestions on how totranslate this type of popular science English materials for other translators.
