Simultaneous Interpretation (hereafter referred to as SI) as a high-end interpreting activityhappens in tandem with the uttering process of the source language, poses great difficulties oninterpreters who are required to output the target language at the very moment the source languagespeaker begins to speak. Because of this distinctive characteristic of the SI process, there is nowonder that Chinese-English SI is perceived as a highly challenging work. Therefore, interpreterwill use some tactics in interpreting.This thesis is an empirical report. In this thesis, the authorwill analyze four students’ spot C-E SI recordings of some selected speeches and sum updifficulties that will probably be encountered by interpreters when doing S-E SI. The study showsthat, under Gile’s Effort Models, the application of tactics such as linear interpretation,paraphrasing and generalization have positive influence on C-E SI. These tactics prove moreeffective in relieving the time pressure and in improving the quality of interpretation and will beguiding interpreters to handle similar situations in their future C-E SI trainings and practice.
