The author of this report translated and proofread a large number of oil-related texts through his internship inBeijing Suntrans Language Translation Co. Ltd in July to August,2013. The company focuses on the translation ofgeological, mining and oil-related documents. It is this experience stirs the author’s interests of the oil-related textsand provides him with the opportunity to think about the translation of oil-related texts. In this report, the authorselected drilling project design report to discuss the C-E translation of oil-related texts by virtue of KatharinaReiss’s text typology and his personal experience so as to solve problems in translating oil-related texts intoEnglish. This report will discuss the C-E translation of oil-related texts, especially the drilling project design reportin details from the following six perspectives:(1) Introduction (background information of this project, thesituation of petroleum industry and aims to achieve in this report);(2) Project brief (the source, quantity andrequirements of this project);(3) Project preparation (translation plan, analysis of the text type of the project, texttypology and contingency plan);(4) Translation process (formulation of glossary and implementation stages andquality control);(5) Case study (translation methods at lecical level and sentence level);(6) Reflections (reflectionon this project, team spirit, translator’s professional ethics, as well as limitations of this report).
