As the role that China played on the international stage has been more and more important,the requirements to know the development theory and policies of China for foreigners have been stronger and stronger.However,most westerners are not familiar with Chinese language and culture,and do not understand China's historical and cultural background,so they cannot correctly interpret China's policies and propositions.Therefore,the translation of Chinese political texts is extremely important.It is conducive to the international community's understanding and cooperation with China and the creation of a good external environment for the development of China.The History of the Development of the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is a book that introduces the development of Chinese theory and polices.The translation of this book can give the foreigners a full view to the policies and development theories of China.The author selected and translated the sixteenth and the seventeenth chapter of this book with30 thousand characters guided by Reiss' text typology.The sixteenth chapter of this book introduces the scientific outlook on development,and the seventeenth chapter of this book introduces the construction of the harmonious society of socialism.The theories covered in these two chapters of the book are in line with the requirements of the development of this era in China.The translation of these two chapters can enhance the understanding of the west on the development of the present China.The sixteenth chapter of this book introduces the scientific outlook on development,and the seventeenth chapter of this book introduces the construction of the harmonious society of socialism.The contents of these two chapters mainly cover China's political theory,which can be classified as political texts.The translation of political texts is mainly for external publicity.These articles introduce the basic national conditions and principles and policies of a country,and their purposes are to let the target language readers understand the information of the source language,which means the main function of the source text is to convey information.Reiss' text typology focuses on the text type of a text,and the text is characterized into three kinds that are informative text,expressive text andoperative text according to the function,language dimension and the focus of this book.Thus translation method can be used according to the text type.The translation of different types of texts should have its own style.Because the predominant function of the source text is to convey information,and the language dimension of it is logical,the focus of it is the content,then the predominant text type of the source text is informative text.Therefore the translation method of an informative text should be “plain prose” which includes specific translation techniques such as omission,addition,shift and division to enable the original information and the author's intention to be accurately and smoothly transmitted,so that the translation can be better accepted by the target text readers.The reporter of this thesis first introduced the background of the translation project,the main content and characteristics of the source text,and the significance and objectives of the translation project.Then the translation process,including the forming of the translation plans,the selection of the parallel text,the text type analysis of the source text and the translation methods and techniques adopted and the revision of the translation were introduced.Then Reiss' text typology and her suggestions for the translation methods for different types of text,as well as the significance of text typology on the translation of informative texts and the feasibility of using text typology to guide the translation were introduced.Then the reporter of this thesis analyzed the translation techniques based on the characteristics of the original text in vocabulary,syntax and discourse under the guidance of text type theory.Finally,the author summarized the experience and lessons learned from this translation practice.
