A Practice Report On Translation Of Biography Of He Jingming (Chapter 1)

Based on a biography translation practice completed for the Biography of He Jingming,this report examines the three main features of biography literature in a systematic way and formulates five methods of biography translation from the perspective of Skopos theory.Three problems emerged during the translation.First,the source text features a large number of Xinyang-related words and culturally loaded terms,such as Xinyang Maojian tea and Baipo Library.Second,there are many quotations used,such as four-character idioms,allusions and spring couplets.Third,the author employs numerous complex sentence structures.In order to create imagery and highlight the personality of the characters,action,linguistic and emotive descriptions are often used within complex syntax.In view of the above problems,the author identified five effective solutions,analyzed some relevant issues and provided fifteen specific examples in a framework informed by Skopos theory.The author has achieved three goals through this translation practice.First,more effective and feasible translation methods were explored,and better translations were formulated with the assistance of the author's supervisor and native English-speaking professionals.Second,it is not only the first biography of He Jingming,but also an important achievement on this topic more broadly.Third,this translation project has gone some way towards promoting the campus culture,and has been inspired the author to further promote He Jingming's achievements.This report includes the translation task description,translation practice process,translation practice case analysis,translation practice summary and reflection.The purpose of this report is to solve the common difficulties encountered during the translation,and provide some references for other translation learners.
